the 20-something's guide to a 2024 vision board night

there are not many things i enjoy more than a new year:: the turning of a page, the chance to create, be, & do whatever you put your mind to, the overwhelming sense of hope… it is one of the reasons i enjoy the holiday season so much! (bet you can’t guess i’m a capricorn, enneagram 3, & manifesting generator…so typical!)

so this capricorn season i decided it would be fun to host a vision board night for some girlfriends! what better way to visualize & “manifest” for the new year, hope, & dream than with some of my besties? so here is my 2024 vision board night playbook if you’d like to do the same with roommates, girlfriends, sisters, cousins, or just on your own!

set the vibes, create the atmosphere.

create an immaculate playlist focused on hype songs, or search spotify so they can create one for you :) (uh yes, that is what i’ll be doing). candles lit (or turned on if you have the fake ones like mwa) to symbolize light into the new year! create cozy nooks & table settings for people to mingle & enjoy each other’s company.

choose your medium.

do you want your guests to have a physical copy of their vision boards? have everyone bring posterboard, magazines, scissors, photos…anything that inspires them! if you have any scrapbook paper, funky scissors, colored pencils, etc. on hand it might be worth it to have those set out for girls to use. more of a virtual girly or have friends that can’t make it in person? create a pinterest board, or get creative using canva or the notability app on your ipad or macbook!

the invites.

i love a good evite, but you could also send a text, an actual paper invite (helloooo snail mail), or even a zoom link if you’re hosting virtually! i’m leaning towards a text to have more of a personal note & touch, but i also might follow it up with a cutesy evite!

chow time.

snacks are always a good idea, & my go-to is, of course, a charcuterie spread. i like to set it up on a table that is easily accessible from a lot of angles so folks can chat & munch. i also like to have a few snack plates set out for people who want to create their own spread.

clink clink let’s take a drink.

i usually only serve water…kidding. i love having various wine options (a pink, white, & red), sparkling water, lemons, tea, & kombucha! okay, the last one was for me, but really get a vibe for your friends to have ideas for what to serve! i’m also a glassware snob & don’t do well with paper cups or red solo cups, so i much prefer glass or fancy, plastic wine glasses or coupes to elevate the vibes a bit. why not get a bit fancy…? :)

everything is possible. no negativity.

let everyone go crazy with their vision boards. set the mood that nothing…absolutely nothing… is off limits or too crazy. one of my biggest pet peeves is someone thinking something is not possible or saying that something “can’t possibly happen”. well, absolutely nothing is impossible with God, so let that sink in a bit & vision board big!

sharing is caring.

feel comfortable sharing your vision board with the group? do it! there is something about verbalizing your dreams with others that makes you more likely to follow through. if you’d rather have people keep it to themselves, that is also great! just make sure to keep the boards so you can check in december 2024 to see all that you & your friends have accomplished!

one final note on reflection & the new year for those of us who’ve struggled in 2023…

there is always something to take as a win from the previous year. if you’ve gone through significant challenges, a break-up, feeling lost in your faith, distant from your friends, lonely, relationship struggles, failure, etc…trust me, i’ve been there, too, & i am praying hard for any of you who are also experiencing those feelings during this time of reflection. it has been a difficult year for me with a lot of emotional & psychological challenges, growth, tears, & basically figuring s*** out, which makes me so excited for the new year. however, something i try to remind myself during the tough years is that God allowed those things to happen to me for a reason. i picture of all of us being part of His lovely vineyard that produces only the best wine, & He is allowing these challenges to happen in our lives to prune us into the people He needs for His kingdom, for His beautiful, delicious wine… ;) so even though these challenges, changes, & growing pains feel awful as we are going through them, i know it is for the betterment of His kingdom & what He wants for our lives. sister, we will come out on the other side of this darkness. the light always shines through in the end.

love & peace to you guys in this new year!
